New Employee Reveals Secret to Sleeping Better

New Employee Reveals Secret to Sleeping Better

Lisa Wright is the newest employee at Verlo Mattress. (She’s been with us for less than two weeks!) When Lisa mentioned she had just bought a Verlo mattress and an adjustable power base, we were curious to hear about her experience.

As Lisa gushed about sleeping better, no longer waking up in pain and her husband snoring less, we all started smiling and shaking our heads. She was preaching to the choir, and her words were music to our ears. We knew we had to share her story with you.

It’s important to note that Lisa was too new to qualify for Verlo’s employee discount program so her purchase wasn’t biased by price. And we certainly don’t make buying a Verlo mattress a condition of employment so there was no ulterior motive in her decision.

Based on the value Lisa puts on a good night’s sleep, we think she’s going to fit in here just fine.

Name: Lisa Wright

Position: Digital Marketing Manager

Years at Verlo:  < 1 year (9 days)

Sleep Position: I used to sleep on my side but with my new mattress I can sleep comfortably on my back.

Why did you feel you needed a new mattress? What was your old mattress like? My husband and I had been having trouble sleeping but we weren’t actively looking for a new mattress. Our last mattress was about seven years old and it was supposed to be good for 10 years so were planning to use it for a few more years. We had a Sleep Number air mattress, which had been working well for us for a few years, but in the last year or so we had been having some issues with it. The foam support divider in the middle that separated the two air mattresses must have weakened because it felt like I was rolling into the middle gap of the bed every night.

The air pressure of the mattresses would also slowly decrease over time, which may have been from our two cats chewing on the tubes underneath the bed. The decreasing air pressure would lower my “sleep number” over time and reduce the support of my mattress and without me realizing it.

We had a queen, which was fine for us when we got it, but now that we have two dogs and two cats that like to sleep on the bed sometimes as well, the queen began to feel too small for us.

Before I started my new position, I went to the Verlo store in Wauwatosa, WI, to learn more about the different types of mattresses. One of the Comfort Coaches asked me a series of questions to find the best mattress for me. He told me about the different types of mattresses available and how the features of the Verlo mattress could help with the sleeping issues I was experiencing, such as feeling too hot at night, waking up with knee and hip pain, my husband’s snoring, etc. He showed me the adjustable base that would allow me to sleep comfortably on my back, which I learned was the ideal sleeping position.

In the past when I would lay on my back, I’d get lower back pain because my mattress wasn’t supportive enough but the adjustable base made it very comfortable.

I was so impressed with the features of the Verlo mattresses and how they could help with my sleeping issues that I took my husband to see the Verlo mattresses later that night, so he could learn about how a new mattress could help him sleep better as well. My husband had been experiencing sleep issues too, such as snoring, shoulder pain from sleeping on his stomach with his arms up, and waking up in the middle of the night from being too warm. He really liked the features of the mattresses and the power foundation and agreed it would be a good idea to go ahead and get a new mattress so we could sleep better throughout the night.

How were you or your partner sleeping on your old mattress? I was sleeping on my side and my husband was sleeping on his stomach. He used to sleep on his back or his side but it would cause him to snore loudly. I usually ended up asking him to sleep on his stomach to reduce the snoring.

Which mattress did you purchase?  We purchased the v9 pillowtop split king with the premium adjustable base.

What made you choose this particular Verlo mattress? I started looking at the v7 mattress after I answered the sleeping questionnaire with the Comfort Coach at the store. I liked the extra softness and support the latex material provided in the v9 though. It wasn’t a very large price difference between the v7 and v9 so we decided to go with the v9 pillowtop.

How long have you had your new Verlo mattress? 5 days

How are you sleeping now? My husband and I are both sleeping on our backs now. We feel we’re able to get a much deeper sleep now and don’t wake up as much throughout the night so we feel much more refreshed in the morning.

How many hours of sleep do you typically get each night? We try to get around 8 hours of sleep each night.

What prompted you to buy an adjustable foundation? When we tried it in the store, I really liked that it reduced the pressure on my lower back when I laid on my back. We also thought it would help with my husband’s snoring.

Would you recommend an adjustable base to a friend or family member? Yes, definitely!

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your adjustable base? We got the premium level because my husband really liked the massage feature and the ability to use the phone app for settings.

What makes your bedroom conducive to sleep? We have thick, dark curtains on the windows to block out the sunlight. We also have an air purifier fan for some background noise, to keep the air in the bedroom clean, and to help keep the room cooler so we don’t get too warm.

Anything else you’d like to add? What set my experience apart at Verlo was the educational aspect involved when talking with the employees and all the questions they asked to make sure I found the right mattress.

I had never been told before that sleeping on my back is the best position for spinal support so I didn’t know about the issues that can happen by sleeping on my side, or for my husband when he sleeps on his stomach.

When we had bought our last mattress at Sleep Number, the main focus was just finding the most comfortable “sleep number” for each person, without addressing our sleeping positions or other sleeping issues. The softness and firmness of the mattress is only one aspect of many things that should be taken into consideration though so it was great to learn more about healthy sleeping from the Comfort Coaches at Verlo.
