After a long day, it's nice to come home, fall into bed and enjoy a good night's sleep to help rejuvenate mind and body. Yet, many people are not sleeping as well as they can because the mattress they lay down on every night is not right for them.

Sleepless nights occur for many reasons: one main cause is the quality of the mattress being slept on. Many mattress dealers sell a one-size-fits-all mattress; that's not good, according to Dave Amann, Lake Geneva Verlo Mattress Factory Stores manager.

"The problem with this is every person is different and therefore no two people get the best sleep possible from the same mattress," Amann said.

Verlo offers a variety of products and stands behind their promise to make any mattress for any customer, Amann said.

"We are able to offer this versatility because we make our mattresses directly on site, when the customer orders it," Keith Mackey, Verlo Mattress Factory Stores vice president said.

Like all Verlo Mattress Factory Stores, the Lake Geneva location can custom-make any mattress size for any size bed, boat, recreational vehicle or antique bed. The outlet can also customize any level of firmness.

Verlo has a strong commitment to training employees to be as knowledgeable about each product offered as possible, according to Amann.

"I began with Verlo as a delivery person when I was in high school, and worked my way up to mattress maker, to salesperson and finally moved into management," Amann said. "It is this same pattern of training and really getting to know every step of the mattress-making process that helps set us apart."

By starting employees out behind the scenes, each employee can tell the customer the ins and outs of a mattress. They can help the customer choose the correct mattress.

Amann said people should test out a mattress before purchasing it.

"It is like buying clothes. You wouldn't just buy something right off the rack; you try it on to see how you like it first," he said. "That is the beauty of our mattresses. If you don't like it, we will work with you even after you have taken it home to make sure you are completely satisfied."

No matter what size mattress the customer needs, Verlo can build it. According to Greg Gardetto, owner of the Verlo Mattress Factory Stores of Greenfield, Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut is a satisfied Verlo customer who got the size mattress he needed custom-made. "This is definitely one of the largest beds we've ever handcrafted," said Gardetto, of the 7.5- by 8-foot bed.

The Lake Geneva Verlo has filled some large orders since the store opened in 1990.

"We decided to work with Verlo after looking around some, because we really wanted to work with a local dealer and they by far offered the best price for the quality we received," said Paula Holmes, operations manager at The Cove in Lake Geneva. "In the three years that we have used Verlo, we have received many customer compliments and have been very satisfied with our mattresses."

That pleases Amann. "When I can leave at the end of the day and know that I provided someone with the best sleep they can possibly have, and knowing that we have done everything possible to make sure they are completely satisfied, that is when I really enjoy my job," he said.
